Optimus Names Ruben Vela II as Newest Editor
Charismatic, talented editor brings expertise in Avid and Final Cut editing software

Leading production and post production house, Optimus, today announced that it has promoted Ruben Vela II to the position of editor, bringing the total number of Optimus editors to 15.
“As a six-year veteran of Optimus, Ruben has proven he has the chops, the talent and the personality to excel as an editor,” said Gretchen Praeger, executive producer and managing director at Optimus. “It takes more than number of jobs cut, dollars billed or a certain level of client kudos or relationships developed to make it to the editor’s chair. More intangible qualities – such as talent, charisma and the ability to work a room – are required, and Ruben has them all.”
Ruben started in the business at Edit Sweet, which was acquired by Optimus in 2001. After taking his game on the road for a few years, Ruben returned to Optimus in 2003. Ruben has cut some very cool work for clients such as Wunderman Chicago, Energy BBDO, Leo Burnett, Downtown Partners Chicago and DDB Chicago. Since starting with Optimus, more and more clients have requested his work, and that’s a core attribute of an Optimus editor. With expertise in Final Cut and Avid-based editing software, he is a key player on the Optimus team.
“Ruben has worked as hard as anyone to become an editor, and it is very much deserved,” said Tom Duff, president of Optimus. “He genuinely cares about his work and the people around him. In addition to his talent, Ruben is a character with magnetism and a smile that disarms. These are envious qualities and they can’t be taught – they must be part of one’s persona.”
